Ten things to know to help your day run smoothly Saturday

1. Is this your first edcamp? If so, check out a blog post written by Edcamp Baltimore organizer Jenna Shaw (@teachbaltshaw), Edcamp Advice: What to Expect at your first Edcamp. This post is full of helpful information about how the day will run and how you can best optimize your learning!

2. Parking at Johns Hopkins is $8 for the full day (or free if you can find street parking). If you choose a garage, you’ll want to park at South Garage. There will be appropriate signage to point the way from the garage to our gathering place, the Glass Pavilion at Levering Hall. Check out our Edcamp Baltimore location page for more specific details.

3. The day starts at 8:30 am in the Glass Pavilion with registration and light breakfast of coffee, tea, orange juice, mini danish and muffins, greek yogurt, and fresh fruit thanks to our sponsors, TechSmith. You are not required to attend breakfast and networking. You do want to be present by 9 am, when schedule building will be in full effect. The first session will begin at 9:50 am. For more information about the schedule for the day, please visit our schedule page.

4. We have two companies with two great apps to enhance your Edcamp Baltimore Experience.

  • Yapp has created an Edcamp Baltimore mobile app, which features the day’s schedule, our Twitter feed, places to share pictures and network, and more.
To access the app:
1. Download YappBox on your mobile device (iPhone or Android)
2. From your mobile device go to: http://my.yapp.us/EDCAMPBMORE

  • An Estuary, an Edcamp Baltimore location sponsor, invites you to take part in the Edcamp Baltimore Scavenger Hunt using Sanderling, a free mobile field journal for teachers. When you have finished the Scavenger Hunt you will earn the Edcamp Baltimore Badge!  To set up your Sanderling account and profile, go to sanderling.io and register using the code: EdcampBmore2013.

5. If you ordered lunch or a t-shirt from us, they'll be waiting for you Saturday. If you didn't, we have a handful of extras available. You can pay using cash or credit card (via PayPal). Also, bring a water bottle! There will be plenty of places to find hydration during the day.

6. There ain't no party like an edcamp party! Be sure to join us after 3:30 at The Dizz for good company!

7. It's not too late to help bring the day together! Fill out the the following volunteer form if you're willing to help with a variety of taks during the event. The organizers love to meet new people!

8. You might have questions, and we at Edcamp Baltimore . . . have answers! Check out our Frequently Asked Questions page. If there's a question we haven't answered, tweet us @edcampbmore or e-mail us at edcampbmore@gmail.com. The day of the event, look for the organizers; we’ll be in Edcamp Baltimore polo shirts!

9. Thank you, thank you, thank you to our sponsors! And a HUGE thank you to those participants who donated money. If you haven't already, take a peek at our Sponsors page on the website. These generous folks have done things from supplementing the cost of a breakfast to providing fantastic prizes for the end of the day. You'll be given at least two raffle ticket at registration for a chance to win these prizes and this year, you’ll be able to select what raffle you wish to be entered in. Remember you must be present at the end of the day to win!

Prizes include: a Google Chromebook (thanks to Alchemy Learning), BrainPop classroom pack, cases and iPad stand from Bump Armour, Doceri desktop license, Edublog Pro subscriptions, premium memberships to FlipSnack, Flocabulary site license, GlogsterEdu licenses, SimpleK12 licenses, multiple copies of TechSmith’s SnagIt and Camtasia software, and Voki classroom and presenter subscriptions.

One of our sponsors, FlipSnack, has a gift for all participants-- a one month membership. Click here to start enjoying that gift today!

10. We are so lucky to have Johns Hopkins’ beautiful buildings for the day. Please help us to “leave no trace” as you go through your day!

Have fun! Come ready to agree, disagree, learn more, and grow. We can't wait to share in this experience with you! Until Saturday . . .
