Ten Things You Should Know Before Attending
Edcamp Baltimore

Can you believe that Edcamp Baltimore is Saturday? Over 300 people have signed up for the event, and our waiting list has almost 100 people strong.  Education stakeholders from Baltimore and beyond will join together Saturday to connect, collaborate and, most importantly, learn from one another. What a wonderful opportunity! We can’t imagine a better way to spend the day than with intrinsically motivated learners who want to lead their own learning. While the organizers have been busy making sure everything is in place for this event, Saturday is really your show! What do you want to discuss? Who do you want to meet? What would you like to take away from this event? Those are all in your control, but let the event organizers know how we can help you reach that goal!

Ten things to know to help your day run smoothly Saturday:

1. Is this your first edcamp? If so, check out a blog post written by Edcamp Baltimore organizer Jenna Shaw, “Edcamp Advice: What to Expect at your first Edcamp”. This post is full of helpful information about how the day will run and how you can best optimize your learning!

2. While we hope you all can make it, continue to let us know if you have a change of plans and cannot. We still have lots of folks on our waiting list, and this will help ensure that as many people as possible can have a great day of learning!

3. We have arranged to have free parking available for a limited number of vehicles in a lot called Muller Deck next to the Bloomberg Center for Physics and Astronomy. There is also a very low fee pay lot ($8 for the day) within easy walking distance. Please check out a map here. We urge you to carpool.

4. The day starts at 8:30 am in the lobby with breakfast (thanks to Tech Smith and Squirrels). We will have coffee, tea and continental breakfast items available. Come whenever you’d like for networking and treats. This is also a great time to figure out what raffles you’d like to enter and what session you might like to suggest.  You will want to be present by 9 am for schedule building. Then, enjoy the rest of the day with us! After our prize drawings, which begin at 2:50 pm (you must be present to win that Chromebook!), be sure to join us after 3:30 at Charles Village Pub for good company!  The rest of the schedule can be found here.

5. During the day, stay in touch with each other and learn from a variety of sessions by using Twitter and the hashtag #edcampbmore and our shared Google doc notes. As a special bonus, we’ll be collaborating via Twitter with other Edcamps that day using a special hashtag #edcampsep27. New to Twitter? Learn how it works in our first session, then join educators from across North America for a multi-Edcamp Twitter chat in the second!

6. If you ordered lunch or a t-shirt from us, they'll be waiting for you Saturday. If you didn't, we have a handful of extras available for $10 each, first come, first served. You can pay using cash or credit card (via PayPal). All lunches come with drinks, and there will be a selection available on Saturday. For ultimate hydration also bring a water bottle! There will be plenty of places to fill up during the day.

7. It's not too late to help bring the day together! Fill out the following form if you're willing to help with a variety of tasks during the event. We organizers love to meet new people!

8. We have some terrific sponsors and some of them have extended offers to all of our attendees! Check out this information below from Flocabulary, Flip Snack and Zaption, and enjoy!

Finally, thank you to Johns Hopkins School of Education for helping us secure our location. Let’s be sure to show the love back by “leaving no trace” on site at the end of the day!

10. You might have questions, and we at Edcamp Baltimore . . . have answers! If there's a question we haven't answered in this email, tweet us @edcampbmore or e-mail us at edcampbmore@gmail.com. Look for the organizers the day of the event; we’ll be in Edcamp Baltimore shirts!

Have fun! Come ready to agree, disagree, learn more, and grow. We can't wait to share in this experience with you! Until Saturday . . .

We can't wait to "be more" with you!
