How are you involved in education?
I teach Computer Information Technology at Spring Grove Middle School in Spring Grove, PA. I also facilitate online graduate courses through PLS for schools such as McDaniel College, Wilkes, Marygrove, & The University of San Diego. I am currently facilitating a course on Simulations and Games in the classroom.
Have you ever attended an unconference?
No.
How do you hope Edcamp Baltimore will allow you to be more?
I thrive on community, discourse, and collaboration. I hope to meet others who are doing what I'm doing but in different ways. I hope to be challenged, encouraged, and inspired, as I always am by my fellow teachers. Ultimately, I hope to build long lasting relationships and grow my PLN.
What are your hopes and goals to allow those you teach to be more?
I hope to share my passion for topics such as Design, games based learning, and gamification. I hope to spread the idea that all students can make life more simple, beautiful, and productive through the application of technology.
If you were to lead a session at Edcamp Baltimore, what might you present?
Design Matters - Improving your brand. How to use simple principles of design to make your class more attractive, user-friendly, and inspiring to students.
Simulations and Games in the classroom - Analyze current beliefs and assumptions about using video and computer games in the classroom, examine contemporary gaming technologies & the pedagogical models behind games. How gaming models may be used for learning. A look at serious games, alternate reality games, and place based games.
